Still, 4e is emininently playable with different combinations of roles. If everybody wants to be the high-offense character, then have everybody play strikers. It works.<br /><br />In practice 4e characters often straddle multiple roles. Not always, but it's not hard to do. One of my favorite characters was Emperor Karvagg. He was a warden who ended up being as much a controller as a defender. Most of his attacks were area effects and he had lost of ways to move himself and enemies around.
